Week 3 RSS Reflections

With this post, I think I am finished with the requirements of the class. Can someone let me know if I need to do other things. I am still confused a great deal about RSS. I understand and see the importance, but not sure that I did it correctly. The visual learner in me is having a great deal of technology "growth" with not sure if I understand what in the world I am doing, even though I think I am following your directions! :)

What did you learn?

Well, I think I learned how you can get the comments that others post without having to look through every blog and every post. I did not know this was possible, and once again realize how I do things the "long way". Once again I am just amazed at what computers can do for us, just about everything but breathe and make our heart beat! :)

How will you use what you have learned?
For now I will use it out of curiousity, to see if I have indeed learned what I think I have. I need to feel more confident about this section to use it in my classroom or educationally.

How did you feel about this tool?
I am a little confused, but feel I am on "the brink" of understanding it but need more assistance with this RSS part. I can see how a person who uses the computer a great deal would love this!

What do you not want to forget about this tool?
I am not sure. Right now I just hope I can remember how to get to it!!

How can this be used in the classroom or in your educational role?
I think this would be great in a high school class. I think high school students would love a class making a blog, posting on others, then checking their RSSs. ALso if you had pen pals on a blog, you could use it to see if they have answered without having to look through all the posts.

Should you use this in the classroom or your educational role?
Perhaps I will use it in the future, I am not comfortable with it yet. Therefore, I am not comfortable in using it with students.

What questions do you still have about this tool?
1. I am wondering if I am using it correctly.
2. I am also wondering how you would make sure that older students were subscribing to blogs that were educationally or socially ok?
3. Finally, I am so appreciative to the moderators for this opportunity, as my health has required me to have a class where I could work a little here and there as I feel up to it. So I thank you so much. I am just wondering if I am "technologically slow" as it has taken me hours and hours to try to figure this out?

RSS attempts

I am rather confused about this RSS. I chose the Yahoo.reader and to the best of my ability put followed the steps..I think this is the HTML. Or how do I let you know what and where it is. This looks like just the flashcard one that I put on....so maybe I didn't copy the right thing. HELP!!

RSS choices

http://www.cbsnews.com/sections/publiceye/main500486.shtml

I felt these sights would keep me up to date on technology, news, and educ. activities I could use.

Websites You Should Visit

Here are a couple of websites or webcams that I would use with my 2nd graders.
When my 2nd graders study animals, they (and I) would love watching this eagle. I watched this year as the eagle went from a baby to flying away!

This website was great when we studied the life cycle of an earthworm. It even had a real egg hatching, how to find the parts on their earthworm, quizzes, etc.

Purpose of This Blog

The purpose of this blog is to practice my skills at making a blog, posting, and hopefully remember how to do this.

Reflections on Blogging Class

What did you learn?
I was so excited that even someone like me with a little technology knowledge (and growing) could develop a blog with the help of 3 very patient moderators (thanks so much to you and Brandie for encouraging me to continue when I nearly quit!)

How will you use what you have learned?
I would like to start a blog during the school year about Bluebonnet books and a challenge I put to incoming 5th graders to read Bluebonnet books where we could discuss them, their likes and dislikes, etc.

How did you feel about staring a blog?
Well, I felt totally inadequate and intimidated, until I read about the others and used the steps given. I don't understand it all, but I feel like I am getting it bit by bit.

What do you not want to forget your blog?

How can this be used in the classroom or in your educational role?
I think this would lend itself much more to high school and college, as I saw the use in posting about upper level assignments. I am not sure of the use otherwise as it takes most elementary kids too long to type and time is so precious and short.

Should you use this in the classroom or your educational role?
I don't think it would be applicable for second graders in any of the blogs I looked at.......especially the typing element, many of my students do not have keyboarding skills.

What questions do you still have about this your blog?
I hope to continue learning about this, I am not sure what questions to ask! I have learned a lot, but still have a lot to learn.

Goals for the Blogging Class

I hope to use this opportunitiy to learn more about blogging as this is entirely new to me. I hope to gain confidence in technology skills, as this does not come easily to me. Setting up a blog has been a challenge, as I don't have a clue as to what I am doing, and admire all the cool blogs everyone in the class has set up.
